The History of ROP

Regional Occupational Centers and Regional Occupational Programs, which operate throughout the state of California as part of the Department of Education, were formed in the 1960s to provide high-quality career technical education to a large number of the population that cannot be provided for adequately, efficiently, and economically by a single school or district. High school freshmen students through adults are served. High school students who take ROCP courses to supplement their curriculum receive high school credits.

Valley ROP Overview

Valley Regional Occupational Program was established in 1971 as a Joint Powers Agreement ROP between Cutler-Orosi, Dinuba, Kings Canyon, Kingsburg Joint Union High School, Parlier, Sanger, and Selma School Districts. See our districts page to learn more about each of our partnering districts. Valley ROP functions as a separate school district within the Fresno County Office of Education. For the 2018-19 school year, Valley ROP currently serves over 6,300 students throughout our seven partnering districts. The 2018-19 budget of $2.2 million supports the entire operation of Valley ROP. Valley ROP and member districts enjoy a unique partnership that allows and encourages program development with a strong emphasis on instruction and classroom support. High school students who take ROCP courses to supplement their curriculum receive high school credits. Valley ROP also provides a wide offering of Dual Enrollment Courses through the partnership with State Center Community College and College of the Sequoias. During the 2018-2019 school year, Valley ROP offered 201 Dual Enrollment courses and over 3,500 students were able to take advantage of the benefits of the program.
